Watch: Purple - "Wallflower" [Premiere]
Stop there. Rewind. It’s the early-noughties, pop-punk guitar bands are rife, Andrew W.K.‘s “Party Hard” is all over Kerrang! TV. A fun, frolicking, if not a little cringey period of current twenty-somethings’ lives. Texan outfit Purple practice smatterings of these old days yet sound oddly fresh.
On the video for new single, “Wallflower”, we are thrown right into a house party brimming with six-packs of beers and teenagers in love. The star of the show is the impossible vivacious lead vocalist/drummer Hanna Brewer who sings and raps like an excitable child behind her kit. Gritty guitar slides, statement bass and raucous choral interplay make for pop-rock with an indomitable punch.
Purple play their debut London show at The Old Blue Last tonight (14 May). “Wallflower” is available on iTuned from 9 June.
