[Premiere] Listen: Active Child – High Priestess

Having already given the world a taste of his forthcoming record in the form of the epic ‘You Are All I See’, the stunning ‘Hanging On’ and a visual album trailer, Active Child has given TLOBF the exclusive premier of album track ‘High Priestess.’ A plaintive sombre number, the brooding melody opens with sharp strings, sparse percussion and swelling, hollow keys before New Jersey native Pat Grossi’s deep, rich vocals punctuate the swirling, layered shimmering mass of samples.

Taken from a record that, according to Grossi himself, focuses “primarily on the joy and heartbreak of relationships, love lost and rediscovered, battles with monogamy, battles with identity,” ‘High Priestess’ is amongst many tracks that “came out much darker” than he had intended. A grand, tense, self-propelling number this latest track really seems to reflect Grossi’s statement that “sometimes you only have so much control.”
