"Time" stands still on the delicately fluttering new track from pianist Poppy Ackroyd
Brighton-based pianist and composer Poppy Ackroyd is getting ready to drop her new mini-album this Friday, and ahead of that release she's unveiled one of the record's beautiful tracks.
"Time" is taken from Sketches, a solo piano album showcasing Ackroyd's incredible talent which has seen her gain admirers such as kindred spirit of the keys, Nils Frahm.
Beginning with light minor chord flutterings, the piece moves sprightly and delicately into a more mournful passage before being lifted out of the doldrums by some incredible flourishes. It gives the effect of the seasons rushing by a window; sun, then showers, a darkness clouding proceedings before shafts of light once again grace the room.
It's a beautiful, elongated five minutes or so and Ackroyd makes the whole thing seem completely effortless.
