POP Montreal Present POP Shots Episode 8: Wasiu & Dear Lola Are Rawsiu
POP Montreal’s POP Shots continues with Montreal Rapper Wasiu in collaboration with Dear Lola, live in a shop-window session recorded at the festival last year.
Wasiu is part of a burgeoning Montreal hip-hop scene along with the likes of Dead Obies and The Posterz who together are pushing a new, edgy and vital sound. Last year he teamed up with producers across the city (and beyond) to put his own spin on the sound of Montreal in the shape of the MTLiens EP.
For the POP Shots session Wasiu joined forces with Dear Lola, who as well as being a co-founder of RAW records also produced 3 tracks on MTLiens for a new project. While MTLiens nodded to OutKast, the POP Shots session finds Wasiu once again paying respects to Hip-Hop classics: “Black Thought” was inspired by, and named for The Roots frontman, while the duo performed as Wasiu & Dear Lola Are Rawsiu in homage to Mos Def & Talib Kwali are Black Star, who also recieve a namecheck in Wasiu's verses.
The session was Recorded and Mastered by LANDR.
