Polly Money shares debut mixtape and bold new single "In The Dark"
"In The Dark" kicks off indie-pop singer/songwriter Polly Money's jaunt through her recent past as she explores her queer identity and the impact of breakups and breakdowns.
The lead track from her autobiographical debut mixtape Trip2020, the project takes a look back at this hellish year. Featuring three previously released singles with "In The Dark" Money plays her ace.
A track for the overthinkers among us, she explains it's "about the realisation you still want the intimacy of an ex, but not the relationship." Money's songwriting often deals with love, loss, regret and the little things which keep you up at night, playing on repeat in the back of your mind.
Based in London and raised in Cornwall, Money isn't shy and wears her heart-on-sleeve across the mixtape's six tracks, especially with its bookends. Acoustic track "2AM" deals with the most relatable topic of all, lockdown loneliness, and it echoes the sentiment of "In The Dark" as she plays with the idea of letting someone she's lost back in.
Discussing the highs and lows of the year, Money says the mixtape "pretty much sums up the wild ride the last few years have been. Many times of elation and equal amounts of anxiety." She adds, "I hope you find the lightness in “Roommate” and “Astrid” and moments you relate to in “TWNTYS” and “Nova.” Have fun with this one.”
An impressive first project, "In The Dark" perfectly captures the subtle nuances that make good pop song great. With 2020 more or less wrapped up, the year ahead is sure to be exciting as Money continues her rise.
