Listen: The Pink Teens - "Shanghaied" [Premiere]
Manchester's The Pink Teens - comprised of former members of Temple Songs - prick our ears up with "Shanghaied".
Rammed with clangy guitars, talkbox vox and propulsive Krauty beats, "Shanghaied" is a fine and frantic introduction to a band reborn.
Speaking about the new sound, frontman Jolan Lewis said: "I have this diagram in my head, like a grid with 'pop' on one side and 'noise' on the other (when I say pop I mean like Brian Wilson and Jon Tabakin, and when I say noise I mean stuff like Hanatrash and The Georgerigegege). With this record I tried to put the dot directly in the centre. It's very difficult to not dilute one with the other, so I would say that perhaps this is slightly more to the right of the line. On future records, I would like to see how far into the corners I can get."
The band's nine-track digital and 12" EP, Good Luck, Pink Teens, is released on 24 November via RIP Records. Pre-order here.
