Papertwin, a Brooklyn-based trio who specialise in creating amazing synth-pop landscapes, may have been together since 2009 but are at last releasing their first studio EP, Vox Humana. Deeply rooted in the band is a passion and knowledge of synths that allows them to build up spectral sounds summoned from the past.
“Alkaline” was the first track unveiled for the EP - a spiralling, dark composition that constantly builds up within its analog architecture. To go along with this mosaic of electronic sounds, the band has released a new video.
Directed, filmed and edited by Clare Wadsworth, the video features Issa Israel, a friend of the band, walking through a dusk-meets-dawn neighbourhood, interspersed with clinical close-ups of what looks like paint, but could easily be mistaken for a remote, hyper-colorful galaxy. Video collages of the band members’ faces counter Israel’s transformation into a mysterious, face-painted man, following the track’s relentless, synth-heavy pace.
Vox Humana is released via Polymono Records on 17 June.
