Listen: Our Mother - "Lion OS X"

04 June 2014, 10:45 | Written by Melanie Battolla

London-based collective Our Mother are visually and sonically mystifying and divergent. The artwork presented so far is minimal yet bold, composed by collage-like cut-outs and graphics that seem to come straight out of a seapunk-aficionado’s wet dream.

Musically, Our Mother are equally at odds. Their falsetto-led “Fire Fire”, the band’s first official release, was a parade of high-spirited chords and brass instrumentation, a definition of beautifully crafted alt-pop. Follow-up, “Lion OS X”, could not be more different. The track is quieter, with feather-weight vocal harmonies and a recurring keyboard melody that treads into folk-pop. Brass instrumentation reappears and peppers the sounds, accompanied with distorted, high-pitched vocals.

“Lion OS X” is yet another tantalising release for the London-based outfit, one that will make you want to hear more of their repertoire.
