Oregon Bike Trails is the project of Zach Yudin, an as-of-yet unsigned Santa Monican musician.
Playing the kind of sun-drenched pop that is as Californian as the Golden Gate bridge, Oregon Bike Trails is nostalgic, without losing relevance within the current musical landscape - relying as heavily on the influence of Animal Collective, as The Beach Boys.
‘A Summer Thing’, the most recent addition to Oregon Bike Trail’s Bandcamp page, begins with a hypnotic piano riff, above which the whole song balances, waxing and waning as layers are added or removed. When the song shifts, it does so effortlessly, keeping the mix feeling breezy and uncomplicated, something which you expect, in execution was anything but simple or accidental.
The reverb-heavy vocals, understandably bring to mind Panda Bear, but there is a more traditional commitment to song structure here, which has brought about another oft mentioned reference to Vampire Weekend, one which Yudin himself has cited.
Yudin has plans to release another of his Bandcamp songs ‘High School Lover’, as a cassette single sometime soon, with a vision to releasing an EP or full-length album in the near-future. Oregon Bike Trails – A Summer Thing by TLOBF
