Listen: Only Real – Get It On
Babyfaced 22-year-old West Londoner, Only Real, presents ‘Get It On’, a floaty, dreamy grime-pop tune, lethargic from bathing in sun-soaked guitar.
Drawn from his forthcoming EP Days in the City, set for release via Luv Luv Luv Records on 7 October, ‘Get It On’ radiates youthful indifference and intentional, calculated laziness; inducing images of aimless floating through West London in the summer.
It’s clear to see why Only Real’s output is oft described as ‘guitar music for people who don’t like guitars’, with ‘Get It On’s subdued, gently lapping waves of UV-drenched guitars timidly approaching the listener, accompanied by Niall Galvin’s nonchalant rambling, Jamie-T-esque raps and softly mewling harmonies. Pointedly unpolished, even unrehearsed, Galvin’s DIY, lo-fi approach is anything but a deterrent.
Only Real will be hosting the ‘Rep Real’ Party at Portobello Road’s Mau Mau on 31 August, with live performances from himself, Tuesday Born and a DJ set from Childhood.
