In all its child-like purity, “Why’d You Make Me Cry” sets Odina’s vocal to a minimal guitar arrangement, allowing her lyrics to take centre stage.
Sprinkled with onomatopoeia, “Why’d You Make Me Cry” is simple and effective pop balladry from the Spanish songwriter. It follows in the wake of last year’s critically acclaimed Broken EP, which saw Odina’s intimate bedroom recording style capturing significant attention.
The exposure of all her raw emotions is the real key to Odina’s songwriting prowess. Laying bare her sorrow and yearning, “Why’d You Make Me Cry” is able to come together in all its vulnerable appeal.
Catch Odina at Primavera Festival on 4 June.
“Why’d You Make Me Cry” is out 24 March.
