We’ve all been there. Engaged in an otherwise mundane situation, jamming a pair of headphones into our ears seems to provide the only scrap of light relief and, somewhat remarkably, Oceaán has tapped into that inexplicable surge of euphoria when you hear that song.
“Need U” is the track in question, a solitary camera following an anonymous boy and girl down moonlit suburban streets, the lonely commute and scruffy supermarket aisles, warm pulses of synth gradually unfurling as they begin to align with its subdued percussion.
As their movements become more vigorous, more gloriously detached from the outside world, it feels as if you are watching not only a music video, but a celebration of its electric power, difficult to articulate yet vividly real. Oceaán’s grip on 2014 shows little sign of relenting, much to our delight.
