Nick Wilson's "All The Same" is an ambient, vocoder-heavy delight
Nick Wilson's "All The Same" finds itself in the same ballpark as artists such as HONNE and FRYARS: restrained electro-pop with an emotional soul.
Wilson's vocals – including his heartfelt falsetto – distort and harmonise as they run through liberally applied vocoder, creating an otherwordly chorus over smooth beats and subtle synth lines. "All The Same" may not break new ground with its delicate structure, but it's nonetheless captivating as it builds from the gentle warmth of its intro towards a stirring final chorus. Its ambience builds an immersive atmosphere without obscuring Wilson's lyrical message.
The inspiration behind the track is melancholy as best, with Wilson describing it as having a "heartbreaking" sentiment. He adds that "leaving someone may be the most logical thing to do, and you could even be the one ending things, but it still kills you inside in some way."
