NAYANA IZ has got your back with silky, R&B inflected groove “Partner in Crime”
North London artist NAYANA IZ weaves a tapestry of genres into a shimmering statement of her identity with new single “Partner in Crime”.
For NAYANA IZ, music allows her to express the dualities of being caught between cultures; her head and heart rooted in the high-rises of North London, but also the vibrancy of her Indian heritage. “Partner in Crime” is a cocktail of classic hip-hop beats and the swirling signatures of her native country with an electronic twist, brimming with nowness. No wonder, then, that she’s the not-so-secret weapon of art collective NiNE8, who, too, have their finger on the pulse of the city in more ways than one.
The visual for the track sees those influences collide in fresh, yet subtle ways. Under the neon lights, she’s head-to-toe in streetwear all the while wielding a khanda, bringing those two worlds together in an unexpected way.
For NAYANA IZ, "Partner in Crime" 'is about that person you trust most even if that person might be yourself. It’s my appreciation for the love we’ve shared and a reminder to them that I always got their back. We’ve been betrayed and hurt before but we know we always got each other through all the pains and all the wins. This is a celebration of us and how far we’ve come, we did it.'
“Partner in Crime” is much more than a song, but the next chapter in the story of who NAYANA IZ is, and where she’s going.
