Dutch producer Mitchell Yard teams up with Iranian-Swedish vocalist Ayelle on slow jam "Mary Jane"
"Mary Jane" is the syrupy, seductive new single from The Netherlands' Mitchell Yard, featuring sweetly hypnotic vocals from R&B angel Ayelle.
"Mary Jane" is a woozy, scaled-back cut from Yard that features deeply resonating sub-bass and carefully distorted vocals twisted into pseudo-instrumentation. It's a track that begs to be heard through a smoky 3am haze, its intimate feel compounded by its vulnerable refrain: "Who'd'ya love more, me or Mary Jane?" An unexpected yet welcome guitar solo peeks in around the three minute mark, keeping "Mary Jane" well distanced from any possible anonymity amongst genre-adjacent artists (think xxyyxx, Cashmere Cat, and other early 2010s stoner soundtracks).
Yard's previous singles – "Fever" and "Need To Know" – dropped back in 2017. "Mary Jane" sees him team up with prolific Iranian-Swedish artist Ayelle, who has this year already released recent single "Obvious".
"'Mary Jane' feels like a love song," Yard explains of the single, "but it’s a wake up call if you feel you’ve been neglecting your partner for a while. I love the way we use drugs as an example and how it can affect a relationship and to show vulnerability without losing its sexuality."
