MiNNETONKA offers up melancholy electro-pop single "We Fight Fires"
Liverpool-based artist/composer MiNNETONKA is sharing new single "We Fight Fires" on Best Fit.
"We Fight Fires" is a gorgeous, lush pop track propped up by rock-solid rhythms. Drum machines and stabby bass plucks lead the way, keeping a range of misty synths on the straight and narrow while mercury-like vocals that shimmer and bite soar above. It's a fluid offering, drenched in whispery, wispy strands of melody, and despite its slight melancholy vibe, it's effortlessly funky.
Bill Ryder-Jones has co-written and produced the single, which follows debut cut "Bird Of Prey".
Speaking about the track, MiNNETONKA says: "This is probably the most open I've ever been in a song – it contains some of my most private, personal thoughts. I’m not normally much of a talker about these things, but I was in a place where I couldn’t not write the song; I was at a certain point in my life and it was therapeutic. Saying that it was probably the easiest song I've ever written as well..."
MiNNETONKA is set to play her debut London date at the Servants Jazz Quarters on 1 June, and hen perform for the first time in Manchester at Salford's Eagle Inn on 2 June.
Listen to "We Fight Fires" below. It's out 27 May via War Room Records. A full-length release is in the works, and slated for release later this year.
