19-year-old MK collaborator Milly Pye releases debut single “Too Many People”
In the age of the X Factor, it can often feel like popstars spring from the earth fully formed.
At 19, it would be easy to write Milly Pye off as another such case. Do a little digging, however, and you’ll discover several years of hard graft under her belt.
Originally from Chester, Pye cut her teeth as busker prior to being discovered. This summer saw her writing with MK, whose track “Bring Me To Life” features her chopped and spliced vocal over a huge club beat.
Pye’s own debut, “Too Many People” is a subtler affair - but not by much. Written with a friend in Finland, “Too Many People” is dramatic, guitar-led pop, built to showcase Pye’s distinctively husky voice.
“I was about 16, 17,” Pye says, of the time the single began to take shape. “I was going through that whole phase where everyone was in love with everyone, and nothing was quite serious, relationship-wise.” She pauses, before adding, “At the same time it’s about the different sides of someone. You can be in love with one person, but you see loads of different sides to them, so it feels like more than one person.”
