Me Not You channel rebellion with an edge of 90s grunge on second single "Relief"
The New York based duo, Me Not You, wowed us with their debut offering “Bulletproof” at the end of last year and now return turning up the guitars and angst on latest release “Relief”.
With its heavier rock sound it will undoubtedly draw comparisons to other female fronted alt-rock outfits, such as Black Honey and Wolf Alice.
Lead singer Nikki explains that the track was written about a memory from her childhood; being kicked out of Catholic school, which for her “was a really painful, yet freeing experience.” This is echoed in the lyric of the repeating hook “in a sense it’s a relief”, a pretty uniform phrase that can be applied to so many things with the beauty of a little thing called hindsight.
While “Relief” may not have the same unique spark of debut “Bulletproof”, it shows the pair’s already diverse skills on what is only their second single. Who knows what lane the third single will take, as the duo continue to ride shotgun while developing their rock inspired sound.
