Brooklyn duo Me Not You storm onto the scene with debut track "Bulletproof"
We hit the crossroads of indecision with Brooklyn duo Me Not You, and their debut release “Bulletproof”.
“When we began writing songs for Me Not You, it was a period of significant change in our lives” the band explains. “Bulletproof” was “the very first song we wrote and, though we didn't exactly realize it at the time, the lyrics captured the highs and lows of what we were feeling.”
Stepping out with their distorted pop sound, the duo’s first release is a statement piece. With the vocals set to soprano from the off, “Bulletproof” soars into life with the buzz of an organ accompanying the angelic layered vocals. By the time we hit the second chorus the vocals are joined by a guitar, with drums and tantalising synths drenching the track in a new darkness.
The track means a lot to the pair, not only because it was their first. “The lyrics came out stream-of-consciousness as we were producing the track on that first day” they explain over email, “but as we reflected back on them, they kept taking on more meaning.” There was no question that's “Bulletproof” would be their launch pad “and though we've written other songs since, we felt that [it] had to be the first song we put out, since it was the birth of Me Not You.”
