Maybug takes us "Out To Sea" on first single from upcoming EP [Premiere]
Bristol native Joseph Dunn has quietly been releasing spare meditations on love and loneliness for about a year under the name Maybug. Today marks the debut of "Out to Sea", the first single from his forthcoming debut EP Pollen Odyssey.
True to its name, "Out To Sea" speaks in lovely language to themes of isolation and loneliness, but it does so with the barely detectable current native to the outer reaches of the ocean, not with the swelling rhythms of waves that break on the shore. It's a gentle and enveloping listen, a song that promises to carry you ever outward into Maybug's tranquil, still-developing waters.
Maybug says of the track: "I don’t have much memory of actually writing it apart from some of the lyrics, but it was finished very quickly and came out of nowhere really. It’s a song about how there are times that I struggle with my state of mind, but that’s OK, and not a completely bad thing - and that it is a part of who I am. And also letting go and forgiving myself for that. It is also a thank you to those people who took the time to help me, and how I look forward to being able to help them out whenever they should need it.”
Maybug's debut EP Pollen Odyssey will be released 18 September.
