Seemingly falling out of the clear blue sky – nay, more like inexplicably found in a dark, dank, sweaty nightclub corner – Brooklyn, NY’s M O T H E R have unleashed “Easy”, a tune assured to press any number of your (musical) pleasure points.
A naked, syncopated drum machine is soon joined by a super-sly funk guitar riff. The vocals slide right into the mix; they’re effortless, they’re the namesake of the song – easy. Add to that some chilled synths, and this stuff is cool as ice; it’s smooth as silk. Forgive my clichés, but I really don’t care – as long as “Easy” is pulsing in the background here, like the song, I’m far cool enough to transcend these hackneyed phrases.
The ace here, though, is the wicked guitar solo that absolutely shreds the final minute or so to pieces. This isn’t electronica, it’s not hip-hop, nor is it rock music of any kind – what it is, is gratifyingly difficult to pigeonhole “Easy”.
We have no upcoming release dates, we have no live shows to inform you of, we don’t even have any other tracks by the band – if they even are a band – to direct you to. So, we’ll be waiting patiently, like you, with baited breath to hear more from M O T H E R.
