British RnB trio M.O have released their latest track “For a Minute”, a cut so soaked in retro charm it begs for a return to the days when girl-groups like TLC and Destiny’s Child were the biggest names in music.
The song itself is a three-minute onslaught of riotous, joyous pop, co-written by Jess Glynne (featured vocalist with Clean Bandit). High-energy vocals jab and swerve between the stabs of a horn section that alternate with free falling harmonies, all riffing over a beat seemingly looped straight out of Amerie’s “1 Thing”.
From the outset there’s a sense these girls are determined to impress. Despite having lifted some of the lyrics right out of the roster of pop-clichés you can’t help but hum along, while your body is compelled into movement by the relentless melody. It’s a breathless, technicolor embrace of youthful euphoria that leaves you flustered and disorientated by your desire to dance, but still determined to join the party.
