Listen: Los Angles Police Department - "She Came Through (Again)"
California’s Los Angeles Police Department are masters of understated statement on their latest cut, “She Came Through (Again)”, a poesy to winning back one’s sweetheart.
Except LAPD is strictly not a band. Comprised of just one musician - Ryan Pollie - it’s inspiring to hear how much one man can turn modern dream-pop on its head with meatier lo-fi sounds and candid lyricism, rather than the genre’s often abstract, wordy counterparts.
“I let her down / I was wrong…But she came through again”, Pollie quivers over pleated guitars, looped oohs and kitchen-sink drums. Musically, it’s not too far off Beach House’s dazed reveries but somehow grows a thicker flesh over its two-minute duration. Bravo.
Los Angeles Police Department’s self-titled debut album is released on 2 September. UK/EU tape and vinyl pre-orders can be made via GoldFlakeTapes. It can also be picked up on tape from Chill Mega Chill or on vinyl from Forged Artifacts. “She Came Through (Again)”, is available as a free download form Soundcloud.
