Liv Dawson strikes gold with her minimal, sultry ballad “Still”
With star-studded producer credentials from MJ Cole and Bruno Major, Liv Dawson is onto a winner with her latest single “Still”.
After the dizzying success of “Tapestry”, all eyes and ears are pointed towards Liv Dawson, the latest talent to come out of the increasingly impressive Method camp. Yet “Still”, the sophomore release from the painfully young and equally talented singer, showcases a more brooding side to Dawson’s repertoire.
The track itself is sultry, sonorous and minimal, with the wide gap between Dawson’s quivering vocals and the sultry low end cleverly mirroring the emptiness that defines “Still”: “The credits roll I think about the start / Replaying over all my favourite parts”.
What is perhaps most impressive about “Still”, is the stellar production duo behind it: MJ Cole and Bruno Major. The result? A light, precise touch with enough warmth to support Dawson’s airy vocals, whist also nodding towards Cole’s roots with slowed drum and bass style percussion and a dark, pulsing bassline.
With tracks as intricately produced and evocative as “Still”, the industry and beyond will be keeping their eyes firmly locked on Liv Dawson.
