Listen: We Were Strangers - "I Believe" [Premiere]
Manchester's always been rooted in rich musical heritage, and while wet-behind-the-ears act We Were Strangers are yet to fully make their mark, debut track "I Believe" is a bold statement of intent.
Beginning with solitary, echoing piano keys, the track gradually unfolds into an emotional opus. It's grand and winding, and as the cut approaches its denouement, slathered with strings, harmonies, post-rock soundscape motifs and more, We Were Strangers whip the rug from under you, leaving nowt but solo vox to hit home.
The band explain the meaning and creation of "I Believe": "[It's] about letting yourself commit to someone, and how to sustain that. It was quite a quick process and I wrote the song in about an hour."
We Were Strangers unveil their first EP Before on 2 March via their own WWS Records.
They will also play their first-ever show at London's Bedroom Bar on 25 February.
