Listen: Turn To Crime - "Without A Care" [Premiere]
Detroit's Turn To Crime are streaming new single "Without A Care" exclusively on Best Fit.
The track is taken from the electro-pop/post-psych outfit's upcoming record Actions. Fusing a wobbly motorik with didgeridoo-style parps and shimmering Dan Deacon-isms, the three-piece create something exceedingly poppy, but also hella leftfield. There are moments of LCD Soundsystem in their slowly-unravelling ode, which yanks at the feelings of all those that have sought escape, and builds up the intense euphoria with reptition, minimalist structures, and enormous hooks.
Speaking about the formation of the track, frontman Derek Stanton said:
"I started writing on the keyboard with a hypnotic, singular, arpeggiated note. I added another arpeggiated melody line and the parts wove in and out of each other creating something of an auditory illusion. As I got lost in the the song, I wanted the subject matter to get lost too, so the song is about disappearing, leaving home, without a care for what you left behind. It's about a young girl or a married women. It mentions the nosey neighbours, the local papers and her old man, which could be her husband or her father. The song is open for interpretation. As it should be. I think everybody's wanted to run away at some point."
Actions is out on Stanton's own Mugg & Bopp label on 27 April.
