The National have unveiled new song ‘The Rains Of Castamere’, featured on the Game Of Thrones soundtrack.
Vocally, it’s vintage The National – with Matt Berninger’s dulcet baritones taking centre-stage as the music is stripped back a bit. But lyrically, it’s a whole different picture to anything off High Violet, taking on a conceptual feel fitting to the fantasy-medieval show.
It’s a short and sweet number but a touch subdued. You keep waiting for it to erupt into new realms of grandeur, but it never does.
Give us Berninger singing about feeling alone in Waitrose anyday.
