Listen: The Familiar – “Dark Eyes”
Brooklyn via Norway pair Ruthy Mirsky and Mads Martinsen’s debut track as The Familiar is as seductive as they come.
A swirling, lust filled synth scape sets the tone – it’s delicate fluctuations and rolling rhythm provide a brooding romantic setting that would not be out of place on the Drive soundtrack. Subtler than any Kavinsky effort but as instantly intoxicating, “Dark Eyes” finds Ruthy’s cold, thin whispering vocals flawlessly woven into the core fabric. It’s so much more than just a scattering of scandi/dream-pop references though, it’s a dark, addictive, visual piece that pulls you into its late night, slow-motion adventures.
Not much information can be found on the duo at the moment, but “Dark Eyes” more than speaks for itself.
