“Baby / Take your feet out your shoes and go crazy / Don’t just dream in your sleep it’s just lazy”, goes the hazy-yet-pleading chorus of ‘Honey’ by Birmingham’s Swim Deep, who’ve recently signed to RCA and will take their place alongside Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson and Chris “I Beat Women” Brown on the label’s roster.
‘Honey’, the band’s new single, switches between a brooding, bass-heavy and almost Gothic verse before opening the curtains and letting the light stream in on a sunny, heavenly chorus that vibes on woozy synths and fuzzed-up guitars. A paean to action rather than being all talk, this track makes good on the promise of debut single ‘King City’ and although Swim Deep claim music is a way out of their native city, the future looks bright for Birmingham’s music scene if this is anything to go by.
