Listen: Solomon Grey – “Last Century Man”

Black Butter are showing no sign of letting-up; the award-winning indie take responsibility for launching the likes of Rudimental, John Newman and Gorgon City. Alongside these household names sit the quietly brilliant, Solomon Grey.

Since they re-appeared with the In Rainbows-inspired “Gen V” at the back-end of last year, the London-based outfit have been unveiling tasters of busy, restless synth-pop. However, this latest effort provides some laid-back respite from the usual pace; that potent weapon that is a male falsetto cries out above careful banjo pickings and eerie samples, building to a rattling-drum crescendo that evokes Bon Iver.

“Last Century Man” is further proof that Solomon Grey deserve to to follow their label alumni into the limelight. Remove the “quietly” – this band is just brilliant.
