Listen: Soft Lighting - "Siamese Gemini"/"Warm Leatherette" [Premiere]
Kansas City's Soft Lighting, real name Bryan Cox (not that Brian Cox), is streaming his upcoming AA-side single "Siamese Gemini"/"Warm Leatherette" ahead of its 18 November release.
"Siamese Gemini" pulses with a strong Jai Paul vibe - it's all low, rumbly bass with breathy, creaking falsetto smothered under layers of effects. The track's a mysterious labyrinth that's far too easy to get lost in. "Warm Leatherette" is a cover of The Normal, and Soft Lighting has explained his take:
"The original version of Warm Leatherette is one of my all time favorite songs and I wanted to cover it but take it out of the realm of minimalism by introducing melody and alternate rhythms etc. The lyrics are so crazy and sexy and I just wanted to stay true to that. I thought it fit well on a release with Siamese Gemini, a song that also has some dark subject matter - psychosis. With both these songs I was trying to create a kind of uneasy yet seductive vibe."
