Listen: Seams – Focus Energy / Motive Order
No stranger to The Line Of Best Fit, Seams is James Welch: a young man obsessed, by his own admission, with social networking, video-gaming and electronic music. It’s precisely these three things that make the musician’s new double A-side release so brilliant, with idle nights in front of a Macbook manifesting and converting itself into beautifully euphoric beats.
‘Focus Energy’ and ‘Motive Order’ are a departure from the tranquility of the artist’s previous Tourist EP or the wide unraveling of Nightcycles, in fact the tracks are closer to some of the more corrosive elements off his sardonically entitled debut, A Juvenile Rush. The Pokemon-inspired tracks see Seams adjust his focus from ambient field recordings made for headphones to twitchy beats meant for the dancefloor. The two songs are like two conjoined twins separated at birth, each born from the same instruments and vocal samples. But like long-lost siblings, each go their separate ways, taking different routes and morphing into two varying identities.
The 12-inch single will be released by Pictures Music on July 18. You can preorder it via Bleep.com. Seams will also be marking the release with a free gig at Camden’s Lock Tavern the day prior.
