What a pleasant surprise, those post-punk, neo-goth femmes in Savages prove to be masters of grassroots promotion once again.
After a handful of live clips dispersed over the internet the last couple of months, the band hinted at a first recorded track via Facebook just this morning. It would drop “very very soon”, they said, and we were “very very excited ” at the prospect of it.
And then suddenly, a couple of hours later, here it is: their first track premiered over at Pitchfork no less.
You can listen to the staunchly fierce ‘Husbands’ below. A ballsy full-throttle debut single, it’s rather refreshing that a band without any MP3s or streams could get this much buzz already, but this first offering just proves all the hype from the first live outings to be well-warranted.
Savages play Field Day festival on 2 June. You can win a pair of tickets to that very fest by entering outour comp here.
