Scandinavian pop seems to have two big threads: the warped, scuffed oddities of, for example, Simian Ghost, and the lustrous gems of Lykke and co.
Sansa fits firmly into the second camp. ‘Black Brick Wall’, taken from her album Savior, has the sheen of beautifully considered chart pop. Perfectly poised, with the Finnish artist’s startling vocal taking centre stage, the track is a lovely, melancholic reminder that even when Scandinavia does all-out chart pop, it still does it with inventiveness and excitement.
