Imperial Recordings co-founder, Magnus Bohman has set up a new label called Dumont Dumont, with the debut offering coming from LA via Oz artist, RY X and his Berlin EP.
Opening with a hook alarmingly close to Mumford’s ‘I Look Up’, the title-track, ‘Berlin’ progresses patiently, creeping forth with graceful guitar filigrees and RY X’s glassy caw; a little Justin Vernon, a little Josef Salvat, totally beguiling. Save for the plucked acoustic and sliding electric, the instrumentation takes a major backseat to RY X’s seamlessly poised vocal. With pipes as pristine as these, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Berlin is out on 28 August.
