Listen: Native America - "Well Understood" [Premiere]
All their old friends may be doctors and lawyers, but that’s not stopping New Orleans foursome Native America from giving up their rock and roll dreams. Thank heavens for that. Their latest single “Well Understood” (and the forthcoming album it’s taken from) is an absolute blast of a listen, and it’s premiering today on Best Fit.
“Well Understood” will be instantly relatable to any 20-something watching their friends move out, grow up, and get real jobs. Plug away at your passion all you want: “you’re wastin’ your time, it’s safe to say”. Ultimately, it’s a song about insecurity, delivered with instantly memorable guitars and a knowing wink. It’s classic rock filtered through the lens of indie from the '90s and beyond, from Pavement to Parquet Courts, from Sebadoh to The Shins.
That college-rock influence isn’t surprising, given that this all started in a dorm room. Ross Farbe and company have grown up on their own terms, making the move from residence hall to recording studio, but that hasn’t stripped them of their distinctly American sound that has us eager for more.
The band say: “It’s a Ray Davies inspired song about vocations.” Listen below.
