Listen: Moody Good feat. Eryn Allen Kane – “Musicbx”
On “Musicbx”, London producer Eddie Jefferys, AKA Moody Good, delivers a ghostly departure from his earlier work with help from Chicago songstress Eryn Allen Kane.
Fans of his work with Jason Morrison in 16bit will no doubt appreciate the minimal sub bass tones that rumble at the low end throughout. Paired with a hypnotic piano line, this bed of sound provides the perfect palette for Kane’s sultry vocals to roll around in.
Kane sounds like a woman who knows that love can be used as a weapon. It’s unclear, however, which side of the gun she stands on. As skittering drums that have been slowed down, chopped to pieces, and put through the effects ringer break the song wide open, the vocals reach a pitch-shifting crescendo that beg, “can somebody love me?”
