Listen: Meg Mac - "Roll Up Your Sleeves" [Premiere]
Sydney native Meg Mac has dropped her newest track, the relentlessly eurphoric “Roll Up Your Sleeves”, taken off her upcoming MEGMAC EP.
The single is her first release in some time, and like previous cuts “Known Better” and “Every Lie”, it’s laced with a Motown flavour: all driving piano and insightful lyricism wrapped up in her trademark bluesy vocals. Musically it’s somewhat sparse, with clean, crisp production playing up a voice that seeks to rival that of Adele or Sam Smith.
The Melbourne based songstress has already received a pretty rapturous reception in her homeland. She was recently featured on Triple J’s popular “Like A Version” sessions, (who were responsible for, amongst other great covers, Glass Animals’ take on “Love Lockdown,”) with her rendition of BROODS’ “Bridges” racking up more than 50k views in just ten days.
Mac has clearly found something of a niche: she knows her strengths and plays to them faultlessly. “Roll Up Your Sleeves” is a riveting example of the power of simplicity: if she continues in this vein her potential for success seems almost unlimited.
“Roll Up Your Sleeves” is available worldwide on iTunes July 1st. Her EP, MEGMAC, is slated for release in August.
