Ahead of the August 30 release of new album Endless Now on Sub Pop, Male Bonding have released an album teaser showing the trio recording in a converted church with John Angello, who’s in the past worked with Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore and Dinsosaur Jr.
The band have also put up the album track ‘Bones’, which is a practically prog-length 6 and a half minutes long. Fear not however, there’s been no reinvention, ‘Bones’ still giddily rushes around like the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it fuzzed up punk pop bursts we’ve come to expect from Male Bonding – just in a more sustained way – like a sugared-up child at a wedding.
The longer length does mean that the band have the space to experiment and expand on their ideas a bit more. The whole song changes step, taking an interesting turn around the halfway mark with the addition of some hazy backing-vocals, providing a slow, dreamy counterpoint to the unyielding four-chord, fast-drum fuzz.
