Toronto’s Lowell hints at a less raucous though no less exciting side with her latest track, “88.”
The pop princess-in-waiting first wowed us with last week’s “thump in the gut” “Cloud 69”.On the second track from her soon to be released EP, Lowell takes a different tack. Unlike its frenetic predecessor, “88” seems designed to intoxicate. While a slightly off-kilter synth and the sound of warped tape provide the primary accompaniment throughout, it’s Lowell’s unique voice that takes the spotlight as the catchy melody of the verse gives way to the acrobatic vocals of the chorus. Dare you not to sing along.
Lowell’s debut EP I Killed Sara V. hits 25 February.
