The influx of impressive electronically-based pop/RnB appears set to continue as Litany emerge with their debut cut. “Slopes” is a track which effortlessly pulls you in, slips you into a dream-like state before waking you up and cascading into a crescendo of production as powerful as it is utterly blissful.
The 20 year old Harrogate pair - Jake Nicolaides (production), Beth Cornell (vocals) - blend the alluring power of a honeyed female vocal with mysterious cotton wool synths and a beat-box lead rhythm to create this beautifully heady concoction, which carries hallmarks far beyond their young years.
“If there was another way I can make you see that there is more to me” Cornell coos sumptuously in a moment as close as the track comes to a chorus. In fact, it’s this lack of any formulaic structure which heightens the songs intensity as, two and a half minutes in, “Slopes” bursts into life with spine-tingling production power akin to the likes of SOHN and James Blake.
It may be early days to be throwing these relative giants of the genre into the mix alongside Litany, but if this first effort is anything to go by they will soon be deserving of more than a fleeting mention in the very same breath.
