Listen: Kiings x Rae Cassidy – “Feel”
Wisconsin is not normally the first place you might think of when you’re after some cracking pop music. If you’re after cheese, definitely, seeing as it produces a quarter of America’s cheese, but not pop. Then in comes Kiings to really buck the trend. The producer duo have already been making a few waves with their light yet wonderful production, but “Feel” is definitely going to be the track that gets them properly noticed.
Working with Rae Cassidy, who herself has been making a name for herself as the live female vocalist for San Fermin, sending The New York Times into awe, “Feel” is a track that feels effortlessly wonderful.
Kiings’ production sails along naturally; a light, marching drum beat leading the way, accompanied by soothing, breezy synths and twinkling keys. The real star here is Rae Cassidy’s deceptively huge vocals. At times, she seems to channel Amber Coffman from Dirty Projectors’ idiosyncratic cadences and inflections, making it something more than your ordinary pop ballad vocal.
It has that anthemic feel that Foxes has been conquering recently, but with gentler, more sweeping production that lets Cassidy’s vocal take centre stage. Listen below.
