Listen: Jimmy Napes - "Give It Up"
Producer, songwriter and Jack-of-all-trades Jimmy Napes, who's worked with Disclosure, Clean Bandit, Sam Smith, Naughty Boy, Mary J. Blige, Nile Rodgers and many more, has just released his debut track called "Give It Up".
Produced by Howard Lawrence, one half of the aforementioned Disclosure, the track tells "the story of an old friend who lost his way". With sparkling synth bleeps and a softly buzzing drone, there's faint twinges of PC Music in the production, but when Napes' cool-as-ice croon skids into the nu-nu-garage melee, it becomes instantly addictive. It's a blend of jerky beats and smooth vocal stylings that prove Napes isn't just a dab-hand at penning tunes, he's a proficient mouthpiece for them too.
The track will feature on Napes' The Making of Me EP, due to be released 9 March through Method Records.
