Listen: Goodbye Chanel – Divine ft. Jaymz Dean
If you have ever wished the likes of Perfume Genius and Youth Lagoon were just a little cheerier – and we’ll concede that the latter is getting there, but his vocals remain oh-so forlorn - then Goodbye Chanel might be your perfect prescription.
Another man with a moniker, Scott Johnson throws his hat into the dream-pop ring this month with the release of his self-produced debut, Through Night to Paradise. After teasing us with demos ’Barcelona’ and the Oberhofer-esque ‘Liefe’, ‘Divine’ ups the ante suggesting all kinds of good things for the coming record.
Featuring Jaymz Dean – a former bandmate from the Aviaries days – ‘Divine’ blends Balearic synths and guitar riffs with Johnson’s intricately layered vocals to breezy and delightful effect. Listen to your hearts content but keep an open mind for what’s still to come.
