Brooklyn indie folk quintet Gondola released their debut EP, We Are The Map at the end of last week.
The light and breezy pop-tinged four-tracker swallows up the traditional European instrumental quirks of Beirut along with the sunbaked harmonics of The Shins and The National’s eye for soothingly maudlin cinematica. Title track ‘We Are The Map’ proves to be a fairly precise amalgam of all three with its resonating four on the floor kick drum cycle giving way to rattling guitars and exorbitantly perfumed brass at the midway point. The countrified boy/girl vocal harmonies help to cement Gondola’s sound somewhere between the pop and traditional spheres; a beautiful and comforting space to reside we’re sure you’ll agree.
We Are the Map is available on 7″ vinyl or as a digital download via Bandcamp.
