Listen: Fujiya & Miyagi – Chichikov
Brighton’s Fujiya & Miyagi have released a 37-minute long running track entitled ‘Different Blades From The Same Pair Of Scissors’, initially commissioned for Nike’s running series in 2008.
Following a musical layout tailored to accompany a ‘run or aerobic workout’, the track is built to a specific time restraint as laid out by Nike in the initial brief to optimise its power as a workout theme (or to optimise the guilt if you’re sat at home listening to the track in pyjamas with jam on your face). Like an electro-funk-pop ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ for your very own Rocky-style fitness montage, bassist Matt Hainsby says the piece has an arc which reflects the brief “of a runner’s journey/experience/pain.”
You can listen to ‘Chichikov’, which is taken from the running track, below. Reflecting the necessarily motivational quick-rhythm and muted guitar strums, the piece naturally flows between quiet concentration and jubilant crescendos whilst maintaining an athletic energy. ‘Chichikov’ gives a good insight into the full running track, which is available to buy now on the band’s own Strange Tongues label.
Fujiya & Miyagi’s latest album Ventriloquizzing is also available now through Full Time Hobby.
