In this day and age of instant gratification, bands must worry that they have to pander to the shortest of attention spans that bloggers have. It’s a sad truth but we are all guilty of it on occasion. I, for one, can’t even get through a whole episode of some thirty minute BBC Three drivel on iPlayer these days without pausing, never to return again. But maybe, in that very case, it’s actually for the best.
Bristol’s Empty Pools, however, seem to have nailed the perfect balance between immediacy and gradual pay-off. The crooked guitar riff at the start of this new track just dropped reels you in while the obtuse lyrics ensure you’re hooked for the entire duration, unravelling in its storytelling but evading conclusiveness throughout.
‘Exploded View’ is the second number released by the fourpiece, with ‘Vanderbilt Cup’ garnering acclaim everywhere from NME to BBC and even some nice words from Ryan Jarman outta The Cribs. Stream it below or download via Bandcamp.
