Hot on the heels of her majestic duet with Amateur Best earlier this week, Empress Of today dropped “Realize You” and – without us getting wrapped up in a big ball of zeitgeist – may have just released one of the boldest and most exhilarating pop songs of the year.
Lorely Rodriguez coos sweetly over clambering beats, her loose rhymes wrapped around endless sentiments of love and devotion such as the genius refrain of “freedom ain’t free if I can’t get free with you / just like me ain’t me if I can’t be me with you”.
Empress Of plays a free show at London’s Birthdays on Tuesday along with Cornish sisters Hockeysmith who also dropped a new track earlier today.
