Listen: Crushed Beaks - "Overgrown" [UK Premiere]

Famously fond of horror flicks, the band infuse their words with a sense of suspense, and energy in their fuzzy pop riff-blasts. "Overgrown" follows that theme, melding jangly-pop hooks with sweetly-menacing lyrics: "We all have little secrets we never meant to keep/and I was hoping I would see you then I thought heard you leave..."

Speaking about the track, the trio's Matt Poile said:

""Overgrown" was written quickly and although I didn’t think too much about the lyrics at the time, I think they reflect a sense of surging into the future with everything around you happening so fast that you barely have time to take it in. I think a lot of our songs - the ones we keep - have that kind of breakneck feel to them. We won’t keep a song unless it has a certain intensity and feeling of forward momentum, it’s difficult to place exactly."

The band's debut record Scatter is due for release 9 February via Matilda.
