Listen: COMPNY - "Begging Me To Come Back"
COMPNY may wish to remain anonymous, but they are certainly making a name for themselves with “Begging Me To Come Back”, a beautiful blend of upbeat and melancholy perfect for these first days of summer.
“Begging Me To Come Back” is powerful pop performed with restraint; COMPNY are determined to stick in your head, sure, but not at the cost of making you hate them in the process. Take the synth in the chorus, for instance: it blares in for cameos here and there, but it never once wears out its welcome. Swelling piano chords hold down the verses, but they are rarely the focus. Different elements—including some lovely vocal harmonies and a jazzy lead guitar that swoop in toward the end of the track—cut in and out, desperate to ensure that no one piece burrows in too deep. But these elements combine to make a song that is at once catchy and controlled, sorrowful and sweet.
